About
Our Story — Kettle Falls Mat Dogs Wrestling
The Kettle Falls Mat Dogs Wrestling Program was built on a simple idea: give young athletes a safe, positive place to learn the sport of wrestling while building confidence, character, and community. What began as a grassroots youth program has grown into a strong foundation for wrestling in Kettle Falls and the surrounding area.
For years, Mat Dogs has provided opportunities for kids ages 5–14 to step onto the mat, many for the very first time, and begin learning the fundamentals of wrestling. Our focus has always been on teaching proper technique, safety, and sportsmanship while helping athletes develop discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
Throughout each season, Mat Dogs athletes participate in regional tournaments and practices that emphasize growth over results. Wins and losses are never the priority — learning, effort, and improvement are. As wrestlers gain experience, they also gain a sense of belonging, forming friendships and connections that extend well beyond the season.
The program has become a central part of the Kettle Falls wrestling community, creating continuity from youth wrestling through middle school and into high school. Today, the Kettle Falls Mat Dogs proudly serve as the official youth feeder program for Kettle Falls Middle School and High School Wrestling, helping athletes transition confidently and prepared as they move through each level.
At its core, Mat Dogs is about more than wrestling. It’s about building a love for the sport, strengthening community ties, and developing young athletes who are proud to represent Kettle Falls — on the mat and in life.
